Since I started beekeeping, I've always wondered what happens during the winter. How do the bees stay warm? In this article, we use SOLIDWORKS to perform a thermal and flow simulation to analyze how much energy bees use to maintain the temperature they need to survive.

VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) is a system that uses virtual machines to provide and manage virtual desktops. VDI hosts desktop environments on a centralized server and deploys them to the end user on request. In VDI, a hypervisor segments servers into virtual machines that, in turn, host virtual desktops that users can access remotely from any device anywhere.

SOLIDWORKS Inspection Sep 06, 2022

In this tutorial, learn the steps required to add Custom Properties to a SOLIDWORKS Inspection project. In order for this information to show in the exported Excel report from the project file, we need to add the Custom Property to the project and link that property to the Excel template file being used to export the information from SOLIDWORKS Inspection.

Linking values to external files in SOLIDWORKS allows users to change a common dimension value via one source. This can be useful when dealing with multiple designs that have to mate with the same interface.

In this SOLIDWORKS tutorial, we explore an Assembly Feature for creating chains and other linked or looped mechanisms. Before we can create this feature, the Assembly must contain a sketch of the path to be followed, and the components to be patterned. The Chain Component Pattern is accessed from the Linear Component Pattern pull-down menu in the Assembly tab (or use the Searchbar to locate it).

Mates are used in SOLIDWORKS Assemblies to constrain the location and interaction of components. It is sometimes useful to temporarily lock certain components in place. Rather than add new Mates (only to remove them moments later), SOLIDWORKS has the ability to fix components temporarily and define groups to quickly lock things down or move many components at once.

In this guide, we explain how to repair broken references in SOLIDWORKS drawings and assemblies. Many of us have had a SOLIDWORKS drawing open where the part file is not shown in the drawing views. This happens when the part file cannot be found.

Mates are constraints that hold components together in SOLIDWORKS assemblies. Like Relations in sketches, they are geometric conditions relating one entity to another. Each Mate requires you to select two (or more) faces, edges, or vertices on separate Parts to build a constraint holding those parts together.

The SOLIDWORKS Weldments tool can be used to create 3D structures using components with multiple profiles with a variety of end-conditions, within a single multi-body Part File. Since any closed profile can be used, this tool is not limited to welded metal applications. Weldments can be used for anything from machine frames and railings to picnic tables and garden sheds.
