SOLIDWORKS Electrical Save Manufacturer Part Info in a Symbol

Article by John Lieber on May 12, 2016

SOLIDWORKS Electrical provides its users with the ability to ‘save’ manufacturer part numbers in each symbol. This will effectively eliminate the need to define a part number after placing symbols in your schemes.

Saving Manufacturer Part Information in a Symbol SOLIDWORKS Electrical

Selecting the triple dot button will bring up the manufacturer part search, where you can select the manufacturer's part number to be associated with the symbol.

With this method, it is best to create a new symbol (copy and paste works best) for each part number, edit the properties (right mouse click on the new symbol) and give it a new name (optional) and description. Select the triple dot button (the arrow is pointing to it) to select the appropriate part number and click OK.

That’s it, now whenever this symbol is placed into a scheme it will already have the part number associated so there will be no need to enter it. This will allow you to very quickly place your symbols and automatically have a parts list (BOM) created without the need to enter any additional information.
