If you plan to move your SOLIDWORKS Composer license to a different machine, you must deactivate it. It is also best practice to deactivate Composer—and any other SOLIDWORKS products—prior to major changes to your computer like replacing the hard drive.
To do this, open SOLIDWORKS Composer and click the Help menu in the top right-hand corner. Select the option for Deactivate Licenses in the dropdown.
Note: This option was called Transfer Licenses in SOLIDWORKS 2016 SP2 and earlier releases.
If you have SOLIDWORKS installed, you can also access the Activation Wizard from SOLIDWORKS by going to ? > Licenses > Deactivate...
In the SOLIDWORKS Product Activation dialog, only select SOLIDWORKS Composer in the list of Products if you do not want to deactivate SOLIDWORKS as well.
If the computer SOLIDWORKS Composer is installed on has internet access, pick the Automatically over the internet (recommended) radio button and click Next to deactivate. Otherwise, select Manually via e-mail, click Next, then follow the steps on the next page in order to deactivate.
