SOLIDWORKS Hole Wizard Holes at an Angle? Here’s How!

Article by GoEngineer on Nov 02, 2017

Compound angle holes in SOLIDWORKS can be done, but typically take a lot of extra reference data like planes, axis, points, 3D sketches, etc. Using the technique explained in this tutorial removes all that and allows you to place the hole and then change the angle of the hole as needed. Let’s begin.

Place the hole at the desired location.

Start the Move Face feature.

The first step is to select the Rotate option and then all the inner faces of the hole that we want to move. (Shown here sectioned to help with visualization)

Now we need to relocate the Triad to the center of the top circular opening of the hole. First, we right-click on the center of the Triad and select Move to Selection…

Then we select the top edge of the hole and the Triad snaps to that location.

Finally, we set the angles needed for XYZ in the PropertyManager at the bottom and click OK.
