Like any secure application, there may be times when you need to update your SOLIDWORKS PDM password. Whether you’re a PDM administrator updating credentials for a user, or a user changing your own password, the process can be completed through the SOLIDWORKS PDM Administration Tool. Below, we’ll walk through the steps for both scenarios.
Note: If your PDM system uses Windows or LDAP logins, password changes must be handled by your IT team using the appropriate user management tools, rather than the Administration Tool.
As an Admin, you can change a user’s password by opening the Administration Tool and logging into the vault using your admin credentials.
Right-click the user whose password you want to change, then select Change Password… from the menu.
In the Change Password dialog box, type the user’s new password, confirm it, and then enter the password of the logged-in user (the admin’s password) to authorize the change.
Click OK to apply and save the new password.
Users can change their own password through the Administration Tool if they meet the following conditions:
If the user does not meet these requirements, they should contact their PDM Administrator for assistance.
To change your own password, log into the Administration Tool using your own username and current password.
Right-click your username, then select Change Password… from the menu.
Type your new password, confirm it, and type your current (old) password in the Password of logged in user field.
Click OK to apply and save the new password.
Changing passwords in SOLIDWORKS PDM is a straightforward process when using the Administration Tool, whether you’re an admin updating another user’s credentials or a user updating your own. Just remember that using a Windows or LDAP login can affect how and where passwords are managed. When in doubt, consult your PDM Administrator or IT team to ensure the correct steps are followed for your system configuration. Keeping passwords up to date is a simple but essential part of maintaining system security and user access.
