So, you just received your new Peel 3 3D scanner, but you’re unsure what to do next. Have you been scanning but are unable to access Peel.CAD reverse engineering tools? Don’t worry, this guide will get you up and running in no time.
First, go to the Creaform Customer Portal. If you already have a username (typically your email) and password), skip to step 2. If not, click the New User? link and fill out the next page.
If you’re unsure of your scanner’s Serial Number, you can find it on the bottom of the scanner near the power and data ports. Once you click the Sign Up button, you should receive a registration confirmation email from Creaform with your temporary password.
Now that you’re logged into the Creaform Customer Portal, click on the My Products link at the top of the page.
Click the download button next to Peel.OS.
Once the installer has been downloaded, launch it and follow the on-screen prompts to install Peel.OS. If you purchased the Peel.CAD reverse engineering upgrade, there’s one final step to activate your license, but if not, you’re done!
When you first launch Peel.OS, you’ll see a small globe icon with a question mark in the upper right corner.
Click this button and you’ll open the Online Services dialog box. Click the Connect button.
This will launch the Online Services section of the Options dialog box. Check the Connect box and put in the email and password you used to log into the Creaform Customer Portal, then click the OK button.
The Online Services dialog box should now look like this:
Now, as long as your computer is connected to the internet, you’ll be able to use the Peel.CAD reverse engineering tools. If you ever need to use them when you don’t have an active internet connection, all you need to do is launch the software ahead of time when you do have internet and click Check out license to work offline and you’ll have a local license that is good for 30 days.
Remember, that since no license is needed for scanning, the Peel.CAD license is cloud-based and floating, you can install Peel.OS on as many computers as you’d like! The only limitation is the number of people who can use the Peel.CAD tools at the same time is limited to the number of licenses you purchased. This is also the only downside to checking out an offline license - it prevents other people from being able to use that license on other computers.
