New VORSA 500 FDM Support Removal System

Article by GoEngineer on Jan 26, 2022

PostProcess Technologies recently announced the addition of a new FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) support removal system to their solutions portfolio - the VORSA 500. This new post-processing machine uses VVD (Volumetric Velocity Dispersion) technology resulting in simple, safe, and automated hands-free support removal.

Hands-Free FDM Support Removal

PostProcess Technologies offers two hands-free support removal methods, recommended based on the support and resin technology being used: spray and submersion. The VORSA 500 is the newest addition to their Spray Series which uses proprietary detergents designed specifically for additive materials.

The detergent dissolves the soluble support material without compromising the model material, regardless of geometry. Spraying the heated solution from multiple high-pressure nozzles above and below the part, VVD gets detergent everywhere it needs to go to remove support fast without the challenges associated with traditional submersion solutions.

Low-density parts tend to float in a traditional submersion tank, which keeps areas above the detergent (where it can’t dissolve) while weighing parts down encourages them to fill up with detergent, which must later drain out. With VVD, parts clean fast and uniformly (regardless of part density) and absorb very little detergent, so they dry quickly too.

VORSA 500 Envelope Size & Features

The VORSA 500 has an ample envelope size of 16” L x 16” W x 14.5” H (large enough to accomodate parts built on a Stratasys Fortus 450 and F123 Series) or large batches of smaller parts delivering uniform results. Software features include customizable settings, one-touch repeatability with recipe storage, intelligent cycle times, and preventative maintenance schedules driven by the AUTOMAT3D software platform.
