The Systems Engineering community is enamored with MBSE, and rightfully so. Model-Based Systems Engineering provides a host of benefits over traditional Systems Engineering, but it can be difficult to capture the benefits in a way that people new to the subject can understand. This article captures the high-level benefits of MBSE without getting overly technical, allowing a fluid introduction to the topic. Most of the benefits commonly discussed surrounding MBSE are a product of the three pillars of Model-Based Systems Engineering: the modeling language, the modeling methodology, and the modeling tool.

As SOLIDWORKS users, we know the power of simulation tools to answer practical, and sometimes just plain curious, questions about the world around us. In this article, I dive into a simple yet insightful aerodynamic study using SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation. Ever wondered how closely following a semi-truck impacts the drag on your car and how this might affect fuel efficiency? This isn’t a high-tech wind tunnel experiment but it is a relatable, everyday scenario with some interesting findings.

SOLIDWORKS PDM Apr 01, 2025

SOLIDWORKS PDM administrators can configure user and group accounts in such a way as to control which users have access to the full history of versions, just the latest version or only versions that have been released as revisions. This article explains the settings involved and how to create the access a user or group should have.

SOLIDWORKS PDM Mar 28, 2025

So, you’re set up with SOLIDWORKS PDM, and you’d like to start the pass-through of data from your CAD files’ custom properties into the PDM data card (or vice versa). You can create a link between the PDM data card and your SOLIDWORKS files’ custom properties using variable mappings. In this guide, we’ll cover the process of creating that link. With SOLIDWORKS PDM variable mapping properly set up, you can take advantage of many automation features in your PDM workflow.

A sheet metal bend notch is a small cut or indentation made at the end of a bend line on a flat sheet metal part. This is designed to help press brake operators to position the material on a press brake machine for a more dialed-in approach. Mostly being used as a visual guide throughout the bending process. This tutorial explains how to create these sheet metal bend notches in SOLIDWORKS.

When you upgrade a SOLIDWORKS PDM vault to a new service pack or version, existing add-ins do not automatically update to the latest version. This needs to be done manually and is important because if you do not update the add-in, fixes done to the task add-in may not apply to the upgraded vault. In this article, learn how to update the convert task add-in (SWTaskAddIn) in a vault when upgrading to a new version or service pack.

DraftSight Mar 24, 2025

To create 3D objects in DraftSight, DraftSight Premium (either stand-alone Premium or Enterprise Plus) is required. This article is an introduction to basic 3D shapes (box, pyramid, wedge, cone, cylinder, sphere, and torus) and explains how to access the tools to create them.

SOLIDWORKS PDM Mar 19, 2025

SOLIDWORKS PDM is a client-server software that requires various network connections to function properly. There are numerous ways to check on those connections to ensure everything is working as it should – or to identify the problem when it’s not.

eDrawings Mar 18, 2025

This article will go over how to resolve the Application Exception: Invalid Class error that can occur when trying to launch eDrawings. You may also see it occur in PDM when clicking on a file to view the preview. The PDM preview uses eDrawings, which is why it can be seen in PDM. This error can appear simple, stating “Application Exception: Invalid Class” or lengthy with a string of other lines.
