3D scanning a dynamic surface can present challenges when evaluating the final result. For instance, if your results use triangles that are too small, the file becomes unnecessarily large and unwieldy. Conversely, if the triangles are too large, you lose resolution and the results are not as accurate as you may need. That's where Creaform's VX Elements Smart Resolution comes into play.
Smart Resolution with Creaform VX Elements applies varying sizes of triangles based upon the contours of the surface. The mesh is much finer on a curved surface, leading to a more accurate result. When you're meshing a flat surface, the triangles are larger, leading to a result that's still accurate, but now is a smaller size and easier to work with.
The Smart Resolution feature is customizable with different modes. To start, Standard resolution applies a 30 thousandths mesh across the board, but a 15 thousandths mesh on curved surfaces.
The high-resolution option in Smart Resolution applies 3 resolutions; the standard 30 thousandths mesh, a 15 thousands mesh, and a 7-8 thousandths meshing on the very fine details. While this does increase the file size, it does provide the greatest accuracy for your files.
Finally, you can choose to customize the resolution options. This lets you fine-tune the detail you need for both the fine and course levels. Additionally, you can select specific areas that you want to hone in on for a more accurate scan. This means the problematic areas can receive a higher degree of resolution, while the areas you're less concerned with can have a courser mesh.
